Continuing Education Units

Our continuing education courses are designed to deepen professional skills, strengthen recovery-oriented practice, and maintain certification requirements. Each course is interactive, relevant, and tailored for professionals in behavioral health, recovery, and community support roles.

Boundaries in the Peer Relationship

Hours: 3

Explore the unique dynamics of boundaries in peer support roles. This training examines common challenges—such as over-identification, dual relationships, and role confusion—and provides practical strategies for maintaining professionalism while preserving authentic connection. Participants will leave with tools to navigate complex situations while upholding ethical standards.

Being Comfortable in Uncomfortable Situations

Hours: 3

Gain confidence in managing challenging moments, from supporting individuals in emotional distress to responding during crisis situations. This training introduces practical tools for active listening, de-escalation, and self-regulation, helping professionals remain grounded and effective under pressure.

Beyond the Behavior: It’s a Trauma Response, Not a Flaw

Hours: 1.5 – 2

Learn to see beyond surface behaviors—like defiance, withdrawal, or avoidance—and recognize them as potential survival strategies rooted in trauma. This course equips participants with skills to respond with empathy, reduce stigma, and foster safety and trust in recovery relationships.

Bridging Treatment and Recovery Language

Hours: 3

Understand the clinical language used by treatment providers and learn how to translate it into recovery-oriented terms that resonate with peers. This training strengthens communication and builds confidence for working within multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring peers can advocate effectively while staying true to recovery values.

Collaborating in a Multi-Disciplinary Team

Hours: 1.5 – 2

Explore the roles, responsibilities, and perspectives of professionals across behavioral health and social service systems. Participants will develop strategies to strengthen communication, resolve conflicts, and promote effective collaboration between peers and other service providers.

Cultural Competence: Working with Service Members, Veterans, and their Families

Hours: 3

Gain insight into the unique needs and experiences of Service Members, Veterans, and their families (SMVF). Learn about military culture, common behavioral health concerns, and resources available for SMVF populations. Training can be tailored to reflect local and regional service availability.

Cultural Competence: Working with the LGBTQIA+ Community

Hours: 3

Increase your knowledge of inclusive language, terminology, and cultural considerations when supporting individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. Developed through the Office of Recovery Services, this training fosters affirming and respectful peer support practices.

Introduction to CALM: Collaborating to Create Time and Space

Hours:  1.5 –3

Learn collaborative, compassionate approaches to reducing access to lethal means during times of crisis. Participants will practice engaging in safety planning conversations designed to protect life while respecting autonomy.

Introduction to Moral Injury: The Unseen Turmoil Within

Hours: 1.5 – 3

Explore the concept of moral injury—emotional, psychological, and spiritual distress resulting from actions that violate personal values. Learn how moral injury affects military personnel, healthcare providers, and first responders, and identify strategies for healing and resilience.

Motivational Interviewing for Peer Recovery Specialists

Hours: 6

This highly interactive training provides Peer Recovery Specialists with the tools to evoke motivation, resolve ambivalence, and strengthen commitment to change. Participants will learn and practice the core MI skills—Open questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries (OARS)—to support lasting recovery.
